Rule your Spirit; Control that Temper!

Proverbs 19:11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

Have you been around someone that is hot tempered to the point that they become angry over the least of things?  Do you have a temper?  Are you quick to become angry?

Proverbs clearly points out that it is discretion for one to control their anger.  Actually, it's just plain smart for one to do so.  Often, when we are angry, we say or do things that we later regret.  Often, after we have calmed down from our anger, we wish we could have handled ourselves in a better manner.  Proverbs states that "he that is slow to wrath, is of great understanding (Proverbs 14:29).  Proverbs also states that "he is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh the city (Proverbs 16:32)."

Clearly, we can control our inner passions to the point that we can become slow to be angry, and we can reached the point that we can learn to measure our words while we are angry.  Scripture also directs us to "be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools (Ecclesiastes 7:9)."

Scripture furthermore teaches us to not allow the sun to go down on our wrath, and Jesus taught us to be forgiving.  As a matter of fact, Jesus taught us to pray to God for forgiveness of our wrongdoings, as we forgive others who do wrong to us (Matthew 6:14).  Our forgiveness from God is influenced by our forgiveness of one another!  It is man's glory to be forgiving.  Hence, in the Words of Apostle Paul "Be ye angry and sin not;  Let not the sun go down upon your wrath:  Neither give place to the devil (Ephesians 4:26).
